Mix and Match

Boston, like most major cities is in the midst of a housing crisis. The demand for housing is very high & the market can not seem to keep up. As prices rise living in Boston neighborhoods is becoming out of reach for many, therefore new & innovative solutions must be developed to counteract that so people of all social & economic classes can enjoy all Boston has to offer.

Lots around the various neighborhoods of Boston vary greatly & after studying the site a 14’-0” x 6’-6” module was decided on for its flexibility & adaptability. This module can easily be framed, systems can be set in place, & insulated as a single unit off site & then transported & erected in place on-site. The size also makes it convenient to be trucked through the narrow streets & most especially the driveways. Once on site flooring materials, interior sheathing, & exterior cladding is then attached to the framed & insulated modules making a rigid, sound system.

By developing a system based on the module, the accessory dwelling unit can be adapted easily depending on the site’s specific constraints & even the budget of the owner. These modules can easily be phased if an owner’s budget is tight & wants to add to the structure as they can.
